A Quick Hello from Southern Africa
We are having a wonderful holiday here in Southern Africa. We spent almost a week in South Africa with no problems, though we avoided the big city centres and other "no go" areas. The highlight was three days in Kruger International Park, where we saw just about every animal you could imagine, and very close to our vehicle, including lions, elephants, zebras, giraffes, wildebeast, buffalo, warthogs, rhinos, and many types of antelopes. It was really incredible.
Now we're well into our first week in Mozambique and loving it incredibly. The people are friendly and manage to understand Kim and my terrible "portunhol". The countryside is beautiful, with lots of fertile farmland, palm tree forests with red soil that reminds me of Paraguay, and beautiful, white sand beaches with humungous waves that the kids are really enjoying. We are at our second "private paradise" as Lukas puts it, at Tofo (pronounced Tofu, but can't find any tofu here), on the coast of southern Mozambique. We just bought an 8 kg baricuda and Lukas fried up some steaks while Maya made a tomato sauce, all very delicious! The kids and Kim are off to play soccer on the beach with some of the local kids while I get caught up on the internet, it's very relaxing after lots of moving around in Kruger park and a long bus trip to get up to here.
Take care,
Barb
